The gadget Gods aren’t being kind to Microsoft’s Xbox team today, because as of 4:15 EST the highly lauded Fall 2011 Xbox Dashboard update has yet to be released to the public.  The Windows 8 inspired Metro Dashboard for the Xbox 360 was supposed to be released today, but that hasn’t been the case as it is still being delayed.  Microsoft and its Xbox mouthpiece Major Nelson have been fairly silent on why the update has been delayed, and neither of them can give a definitive timeframe for the now late update to be rolled out.  Considering that I used to be an IT professional I’d say whatever is causing the delay must be beyond massive.

When a group of technical people pull the plug on a major software revision on the day of its release, it usually means that they’re dealing with an unforeseen cluster*ck.  I remember these scenarios from my previous life, and it gives me nightmares until this day, so I can only imagine what the Xbox team is feeling right now.  There’s definitely some geeks who won’t be sleeping until this debacle gets ironed out, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) has a heart attack.  Oh well, I guess we’ll have to wait on the new dashboard for now.  If you want up to the minute details on when the update actually gets released make sure to follow us on Twitter @EntBuddha, as well as @MajorNelson.  You’ve been feeling like a PS3 user today…
