April 18 Can’t Come Soon Enough, New Gears 3 Beta Footage!

Ever since EPIC announced that the Gears of War 3 beta would indeed launch on 4/18 (For Bulletstormers) I’ve been dreaming about getting my hands on it.  The Gears of War series has been very near and dear to my heart, but after the Gears 2 MP clusterf*ck the franchise lost some of the luster that it had from the first game.  Hopefully this isn’t the case with the 3rd game in the franchise, Gears of War 3.  Considering that EPIC pushed the game back a few months and is offering a multiplayer beta, I’d say that Gears 3 shouldn’t suffer from the launch day plague that the second game did.

I applaud @therealcliffyb and @GearsViking for owning up to the mess that ultimately became Gears 2, and their pledge to the fans that the 3rd game would not blow serious goat taint when it came to its MP component.  I think they’re doing the right thing by releasing a beta, so they can remove as many bugs as possible before the game ships this September 20th.  From the looks of the demo below I’d say things are shaping up nicely.  Make sure to take note of the tac-com feature and the one-shot gun in the video below.

These are both new to the Gears World, and they’re both awesome additions.  That one-shot is going to f*ck up a lot of gamer’s days for sure, and I like the thought of being able to see your enemies locations using the tac-com.  Plus, Cole Train in his Trashball gear?  How can you not love that!?  Not to mention that it looks like EPIC stole some skillshot style kills from PCF in the form of grenade tagging and kicking your opponent into their allies.  Check out the short demo with commentary from Rod Fergusson below.  You’ve been wanting to play this game since last Spring…
