Assassin’s Creed 3 Preview – The Action is Going to be Back
Seldom has a game won as many hearts and accolades as the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Set against a backdrop of action, history and adventure, this video game introduced us to Desmond Miles, who comes from a long line of assassins. Miles is a bartender who uses the ‘Animus’ to relive his ancestor’s memories. His adventures, flights into the pasts of his relatives, and rescue missions form the bulk of this game.
With powerful names like Chronicles, Bloodlines, Discovery, Legacy, Brotherhood and Revelations you get a sense of what the game is all about. The creed believes in three simple rules- to never kill an innocent, to never draw attention to itself, and to never betray the brotherhood.
The third installment of the game is set for an end of October release. What we know is that the game has a new hero in the form of Connor Kenway, of British and Native American descent. We will delve into his mind and memories and travel with him to the Frontier of an old United States. The Frontier is on a large, grander scale, surpassing the massive Rome and Constantinople from Brotherhood and Revelations. We also believe that this game will be longer than its predecessor by about 20%.
Since the Creed series is known for its history, and its third full iteration is set during the Revolution, we will meet the likes of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington along the way. The game is known for its weapons, including the famous blade set that the assassins carry tucked into their arm bands. Don’t forget all of the rad parkour action, and in AC3 we can expect more weapons like pistols, axes, tomahawks, bow and arrow, and a knife zip line in Assassin’s Creed III. The vagaries of weather are also to be experienced with fog, rain and snow, which is much different than the previous entries in the series.
A point that must be made is about the gameplay. From the very beginning we have seen an open world platform, presented in a manner apart from the player. This gives for wider range of movement and the player has freedom to choose how he/she approaches their targets and objectives, since there is no correct way, or one way of doing things. We are now being promised a completely new version, down to the styles and animations. We will see Connor hunting, climbing trees, and swinging from branch to branch, a la Tarzan. He even has the ability to run through buildings now to make a quick escape. We are also seeing a thrilling nautical adventure that is creating a lot of buzz online.
Every gaming console, including the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS has Assassin’s Creed. You will also see it on Android and Windows Phones. You can even play the on the Mac OS X. Thus, the makers of the game, Ubisoft and Gameloft (for the handheld devices) have ensured that no one escapes the heart pounding ride the game offers.
So there is a lot going for Assassin’s Creed III and fans of the franchise have much to look forward to. Come October, get ready to greet the creed.
