Atari VCS Team Acquires Rob Wyatt (Xbox Architect)

Today, Atari released an official statement that reads as follows:

“Today, Atari announced that Rob Wyatt, the System Architect behind the original Xbox game console, and one of the designers of the PlayStation 3’s graphics systems, has officially joined the Atari VCS team. An expert in GPU hardware and 3D graphics, Mr. Wyatt and his company Tin Giant bring their talents to the Atari VCS home entertainment platform, working alongside Atari and hardware partners such as AMD to bring the Atari VCS to gamers. Stay tuned for additional Atari VCS announcements between now and product launch next year, which include regular product development updates, new hardware partnerships, publisher and developer reveals, non-gaming content providers and much more.”

This is pretty important for the upcoming console, and really sets it apart from the likes of the Ouya. Atari is taking their new console seriously, and that’s extremely exciting to hear and see, because I was totally ready to write off their new console as another insta-flop.
