Marvel, having quite a day along with the reveal of the entire Phase Three lineup, rolled out an extended trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The team has a bit of fun and frivolity at the beginning when each takes a turn to try and pick up Thor’s hammer, the mighty Mjolnir, and each having no success although Thor looks mildly troubled when Steve Rogers manages to budge it, slightly. As Thor then remarks when he so flippantly flips the hammer into the air, “you’re all not worthy”. And that’s when the fun ends.

The new cut paints a picture that may ultimately better mimic the tone of the movie, in that the Avengers are somewhat trouble free and safe until Ultron goes off the rails. The bigger question is why this clip in the movie. I am an avid subscriber to the dramatic principle of Chekhov’s gun, basically that every detail in a story is there to serve a purpose, the fact that they are showing how easily Thor can lift the enchanged hammer, Mjolnir, as well as him dropping the hammer in a short scene later and also with the just revealed title of the next Thor solo movie, Thor: Ragnarok, this may be the beginning of some dark times for the mighty Avenger, Thor.
