‘Battle Chasers: Nightwar’ Switch Port Review

It is time again to revisit one of my favorite RPG games in recent time. Based on the classic comic series from the 90s that sparked a cult following, Battle Chasers: Nightwar has finally been ported over to the Nintendo Switch. The good news here is, this is basically a straight port and there are no brand new features and there aren’t any features that were left out. We actually reviewed this title back when it came out on the other major system and gave it quite the high rating.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar holds up, even more so on the Nintendo Switch. All of the great things that make Nightwar fun are still here and great as always. The plus side of being ported over to the Nintendo Switch, of course, is the portability of the game. I can now take this amazing RPG anywhere I go. The draw of being able to take this game anywhere is huge, unfortunately, there are some problems when the Switch is in mobile mode. I experienced some frame issues, as if the game wasn’t fully optimized to be played on such a small screen. Fortunately, this wasn’t enough to break the game itself, just very minor inconveniences.

On the positive side, Battle Chasers: Nightwar makes great use of the HD Rumble on the Joy-Con controllers. Every attack you make feels even more impactful than before because of the unique feature of the Joy-Cons. Other than that, there is nothing else that has changed between the other versions of the game. Combat, crafting and dungeons are still at the center of this experience and they are done very well. The original video to the review can be found within the article. If you have not gotten the chance to pick this one up and you own a Nintendo Switch, Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a must-own RPG for fans of the genre.

Even being ported on the Switch, Nightwar has not missed any steps. Aside from the original faults, the frame drops on the mobile mode were minor inconveniences. HD Rumble brings combat to life like never before, I highly suggest this title!
