Chewbacca Officially Becomes Han’s Co-Pilot In First ‘Solo’ Clip

Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first official clip from Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it offers up a pretty iconic moment in Star Wars lore. Parts of this clip have been shown off in the trailers for this film, but when seeing them in context, this scene is pretty epic.

Basically, Chewie, Han, and Qi’Ra are in the cockpit of the Falcon and they’re being chased by the Empire. They need to redirect shields, but Qi’Ra doesn’t know how to get things done, and Lando is off doing something else, probably trying to fix the hyperdrive, because it is the Falcon after all. Anyway, Chewie makes a few flip switches, reveals his age, and then fully takes over for Qi’Ra as Han’s co-pilot. So in effect, this is the first time the two pilot the Falcon together, which we know they do many more times after this moment.

The scene also feels very Star Wars-ish, so while myself and most other fans have had reservations about Solo, the more I see of it the more my fears are subsiding. I’m all in for May 24th, and the 25th!
