Cumberbatch Rumored to be Playing a Sith in Star Wars Episode VII
Benedict Cumberbatch, the well known star from BBC’s Sherlock, is now rumored to be up for the role of a new Sith villain in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Apparently, the role will not only play a major part in the new film, but also in the continuing series. Keep in mind that these are still rumors but, it’s okay to hope right?
There has been no word yet in regards to Cumberbatch’s other film commitments, specifically his role as The Necromancer in the 2013 and 2014 releases of the new Hobbit films, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
I have personally enjoyed Cumberbatch’s acting in both Sherlock and his other films and shows. I feel that he certainly could pull off a brooding, dark and mischievous Sith lord. However, it might mean he will have to make a choice between the new Star Wars and The Hobbit films. Personally, I would love it if he could do both.
Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for a summer 2015 release. It will be part of the planned third trilogy of Star Wars films, and will be chronologically produced after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
