‘Dark Phoenix’ Looks to Repeat the Same X-Men Movie Formula in First Trailer

Fox has dropped the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, and I have to say that it didn’t do much for me in terms of getting me excited for the film’s release. In fact, it literally just looks like the same old rebooted X-Men movie formula. We’re going to get plenty of Professor X and Mystique, Magneto will be neutral and possibly good, then he’ll be bad, then he’ll probably be neutral again, and Professor X will fail the X-Men by doing something shady in his past.

Honestly, just give this franchise over to Kevin Feige already, because as he has shown with Spider-Man, only he and Marvel should be in control of live-action comic book films featuring characters from Stan Lee and company’s imaginations. Check out the Dark Phoenix trailer for yourself above.

About Dark Phoenix

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy. In Theaters February 14, 2019.
