Back in January, DC’s Jim Lee teased comic fans with this tweet that ignited either excitement or scorn, depending on your stance of reboots (or what “reboot” even means):

It wasn’t so long ago that DC was running its Convergence series (which saw an end to The New 52 brand, but not the continuity), though this time they’re making a bigger splash. When Convergence concluded, 24 of DC’s books began at issue one, while they continued pumping out ongoing titles at their current numbering. This time around, it’s back to issue one.

Aside from their two longest-running titles (Action Comics and Detective Comics), DC is beginning each book with new #1s. While DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns refuses to refer to this event as a reboot, signs point in that direction. DC has already released a couple individual titles under the “rebirth” tag in Green Lanter Rebirth, and The Flash Rebirth, and now they’re looking to make it cross every title. The goal, as Johns explains in the video above, is to restore a familiar legacy to the titles that have gotten lost or mudded along the way.

There’s more than just a renumbering change occurring as well. DC will be offering its books for $2.99, compared to their current costs between $2.99 and $3.99. DC fans should be happy that they’ll be saving a few bucks, but that’s where the other announcement comes into play.

The typical once-a-month release is being tampered with by the folks at DC, as the announcement also stated select core books will be upped to twice a month. This has its pros and cons, as fans may be more excited to read their favorites more often, though the rushed schedule my dilute the story and artwork behind the scenes. Time will tell, but the Rebirth is set to kick off on May 25th with an 80-page DC Universe: Rebirth #1. Until then, check out the list of what to expect in the coming months:
