Dead Island Trailer is Zombie Excellence With a Touch of Heart

These days the walking dead are everywhere.  Zombies have made quite a resurgence in the videogame arena, and the small screen over the past few years.  We’ve had a plethora of zombie games dumped on us, and there’s even a cable television series about them with AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’.  At this point you may be feeling a little burnt out on those brain eating maniacs, but I strongly urge you to watch the Dead Island trailer below before you give up on zombies all together.

Dead Island is a videogame about a zombie outbreak on a tourist island, which doesn’t sound much different than other zombie games, but the emotional side of the trailer will show you otherwise.  This game is about how f*cked up it would be to watch your family suffer the gruesome fates that flesh eating zombies inflict upon them, all while trying to avoid your own demise.  Dead Island’s trailer is unlike any videogame trailer I’ve ever seen.  Typically, most game trailers are in your face and over the top, but Deep Silver studios took a different approach with the Dead Island trailer.  Let’s just say they show you the end before the begining, and it’s done in a manner where you’ll be on the edge of your seat by the end of the trailer.  The odd part is that there’s a sense of peace instilled by the serene soundtrack that accompanies all of the tragedies taking place on the screen, which really helps to dial in your emotions for this game.

I never heard of Dead Island before watching this trailer, but I can promise you that I’ll be picking it up when it releases.  Never has a trailer gotten me so intrigued in a videogame like Dead Island’s.  It’s one of the most creative pieces of game marketing I’ve ever seen.  If there were awards for achievements in videogame trailers, Dead Island would most definitely deserve one.  Check it out below.  You’ve never thought watching a game character die could be so emotional…
