‘Detention’ Twists Asian Religion and Mythology into a Point and Click Horror
The horrific atmosphere looks palpable in Detention. The teaser trailer above grants a glance into the game’s elements of East Asian religions, point and click mechanisms, and beautifully illustrated scenes. Most references recall facets of Taoism and Buddhism during the time or martial law in 1960s Taiwan—a setting you don’t often see in video games.
There’s an incredible amount of supernatural events happening in this school, and it’s up to you to avoid the paranormal hostilities in order to figure out what exactly is going on. Even if you aren’t into the story or the art, the trailer is worth watching just for the soundtrack.
Detention is currently available on Steam if you want to check it out. There’s no word on the release date for the PS4 version, but at least you know what to expect now.
