Disney hit a gold mine with their acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, and their first offering kicked things off in a big way. The Force Awakens  grossed over $2 billion worldwide–that’s just the theatrical numbers–which allowed Disney to make back half of the $4 billion they paid for Lucasfilm in the first place. Not a bad ROI.

With one film under their wing, Disney next focused their ventures on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story due out later this year. With Episode VIII filming wrapped, Disney is now setting their sites on a Han Solo flick. When the film was first announced, it was believed that it would be a one-shot sprinkled in with the main line Star Wars episodes. Disney thought differently. News broke earlier this week that Disney is leaning towards not one, but three films centered around the galaxy’s favorite smuggler.

Disney is obviously expecting to cash in big with its shiny new toy, and they feel that actor Alden Ehrenreich is the man to take us back to the days of a pre-scruffy, pre-nerf herding smuggler. Are three films necessary? Probably not, but the Star Wars fanbase is wide and ever-growing, so it makes business sense to potentially increase the product. It should be noted, however, that Disney will unlikely green light the additional films until they see how the first one opens. But with the success of TFA, it would take a major flop for Disney not to take the leap on a second and third installment.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16th.
