Disney Plans Third Star Wars Story Project for 2020 with More Movies to Come
Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Wednesday about a recent conversation he’s had with Kathleen Kennedy, who helms Lucasfilm and therefore is in charge of the Star Wars movie universe. This is what he had to say about the conversation courtesy of The Wrap:
“I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out — well, we reviewed — the ‘Star Wars’ plans that we have ’til 2020. We have movies in development for ‘Star Wars’ ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond.”
Considering Episode IX is slated for 2019, the 2020 project will be another Star Wars Story standalone movie, but unfortunately he didn’t have much to reveal about it. As a fan I’d be down for a Boba Fett standalone, or a movie about the extremely painful death of Jar Jar Binks, as I think either would entertain hardcore fans.
I’m also obviously interested in his “2021 and beyond” line, which opens up all sorts of speculation about what comes next. Will they only be standalone Star Wars Stories, or will there be a continuation of the Skywalker saga, which will reach nine films come 2019. Lay in with your own speculation below!
We’ll make sure to keep you in the Star Wars loop as more information on the future of the Universe Kennedy is building unfolds. Speaking of which, it appears that Maz Kanata will be back for Episode VIII thanks to a confirmation from Lupita Nyong’o on the Ellen Degeneres show. According to Trailer Addict she said, “”I shot my scenes, it’s coming out – you never really know, when you shoot your scenes in a movie, which ones are gonna make it and all that. So, it’s always, Fingers crossed! But as far as I know, I’m in it.”
“Making you a better geek, one post at a time!”
