Disney Reveals Title for First Stand-alone Star Wars Film – ‘Rogue One’

Disney Chairman Bob Iger revealed the name for the first stand-alone Star Wars film at a recent shareholders meeting, while also providing a release date and information on Star Wars Episode VIII.

The stand-alone movie will be called Rogue One and will star Felicity Jones. The release date is set for December 16, 2016. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards, and it will focus on events and characters that aren’t part of the core Star Wars universe of well known characters.

Iger also revealed that Looper director, Rian Johnson, will be the director for Star Wars Episode VIII, which is set to release on May 26, 2017. Super-fans may recognize the importance of that date as it aligns with the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars film’s release.

What does everyone think of these reveals? What do you think of the name, and what do you think about the idea that JJ won’t be directing Episode VIII? Leave your replies in the comment section below.
