Humanity always seems to have pretty terrible luck within the world of the XCOM franchise. They don’t just lay down and die, however, as the elite XCOM team always seems to pull ahead in the end and kick alien behind back to the outer reaches of space.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a prequel to the events of 2012’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown, will take a decidedly ‘retro’ look at humanity’s battle against alien invaders. Set in 1962, The Bureau tells the story of Federal Agent William Carter and his battle to put an end to an alien threat.

The newest trailer for The Bureau was released today and it showcases Carter’s elite team and some of the battles that they will encounter during the course of the game. The trailer, entitled ‘Last Defense’ shows a bit more of The Bureau‘s take on signature combat of the series. In a bit of a departure from its predecessors, The Bureau plays more like a third-person shooter than anything else. While the tactical decisions and wheel-based ability selection are still present, it seems that The Bureau is will be a much smoother game than previous entries.

The ‘Last Defense’ trailer can be found below, check it out for some 1960’s alien ass kicking action and be on the lookout for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified to his shelves on August 20th for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
