Best Rehash of Tired Gameplay Tropes – Far Cry 4

Far Cry® 4_20141118223537

Far Cry 4 wins this award for many of the reasons listed above, but also for the fact that it plays like every Ubisoft game to hit retail over the past seven years. Really, all Ubisoft titles released in 2014 could win this award because each one follows a very similar gameplay pattern. Find a tower or large structure, climb it, unlock the fog of war, do objectives, rinse and repeat. Outside of the characters and setting Far Cry 4 is Far Cry 3 2.0.

Best Botched Launch – AC: Unity

ACUnityArno-1

More than a few titles could have one this award, but Team EB voted for Unity to take the honor in 2014. The Halo: MCC was a strong contender, but the fact that Unity was broken in every regard is why it took the top spot. It has glitchy AI, crappy frame rates, pay-to-play, and a myriad of other issues that just crippled any chance of it having a successful launch. Ubisoft didn’t even allow media outlets to provide reviews for the game until it went on sale to the public, which just goes to show that it had an idea of the junk it was dropping in the hands of eager AC fans.
