As 2014 comes to a close, it is high time to look back on the past twelve months and the video games released during them. It’s been a whirlwind of a gaming year, chock full of interesting new games, broken and buggy releases, and a a sprinkling of controversy thrown in for good measure. Through it all, however, a handful of great video games found their way into the homes and hearts of Entertainment Buddha’s staff.

Over the last week, the EB team deliberated, analyzing each and every video game we got our hands on, in an attempt to put together the site’s official top 10 games of 2014. Each writer put together their own carefully crafted personal list of games, which was ultimately used to flesh out the site’s overall top 10. Below, Entertainment Buddha’s top 10 games of 2014 can be found, along with the honorable mentioned that just missed the cut and each staff member’s personal list. 10) Wolfenstein: The New Order

It’s hard to deny the appeal of shredding through futuristic Nazi soldiers with two massive machine guns. The frenetic first-person shooter from MachineGames did the Wolfenstein legacy justice, blending intense action, unparalleled gore and an engaging narrative together in such a way that one cannot help but enjoy every second of Wolfenstein: The New Order.

9) Grand Theft Auto V HD

High-definition re-releases are immensely popular these days, giving gamers a chance to experience some of their favorite titles all over again on the newest console generation. Rockstar Games took the HD re-release craze to the next level, bringing Grand Theft Auto V back to the masses once more. Instead of simply making GTAV look better, the HD release managed to redefine the game, incorporating a new first-person mode and numerous other tweaks to ensure that gamers won’t be leaving Los Santos anytime soon.

8) Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition

Diablo III’s definitive version, the ‘Ultimate Evil Edition’ is undoubtedly one of the most addition video games ever conceived. Blizzard has perfected the signature gameplay of Diablo, creating a non-stop, endlessly enjoyable game with awesome mechanics, a (now) amazing loot system and some of the best art direction to ever come out of the studio. Fare warning, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition will eat up all of your free time.
