UPDATE – Swamp Thing will get a reduced first season, then it will be cancelled, no Season 2, according to our source.
This week there have been rumors swirling around for the DC Universe streaming service and one of its planned series, Swamp Thing.
Reports have come out stating that Warner Bros. has reduced the series down to just 10 episodes, but now thanks to our source, it appears that the show will be cancelled altogether, along with the DC Universe service itself.
That’s right, both Swamp Thing, and the current DC Universe service will be whacked. Our source said the moves are being made in response to Disney’s extremely low priced Disney+ service, which will be releasing this fall with exclusive Star Wars content, as well as the Disney vault of movies, and other exclusive shows from its properties, such as Marvel.
It sounds like Warner Bros. was caught off guard with the pricing of Disney+, so when you couple that with its inability to make DC Universe a must-buy service for DC fans, it makes sense that the studio may want to re-evaluate its streaming service model.
Stay tuned for more details, but we can confirm with confidence that Swamp Thing will be cancelled completely, and the DC Universe service will be going through some major changes that may include a complete rebranding into a new service altogether. Don’t expect any new seasons of the service’s shows anytime soon.
