Netflix has been cancelling its Marvel shows left and right, and I don’t personally think it’s the streaming company’s desire to do so. It more than likely has something to do with Disney’s Disney+ streaming service, which is set to launch in 2019. I would imagine there is contract language that is probably being deployed to get Disney out of its old deals with Netflix, which is why the shows are getting the axe.
The only two Netflix Marvel shows that haven’t been officially pulled yet are Jessica Jones, and The Punisher, but after receiving an update from very reliable sources yesterday, we can report that The Punisher will be cancelled. Its second season will still air, but that will be it for The Punisher on Netflix. These same sources couldn’t confirm if the show would be moving to Disney+, so for now, like the other cancelled properties, The Punisher’s fate is up in the air.
It’s not clear when the official announcement will be delivered by Netflix, but you can now bank on it happening. I’d bet on it coming after the show’s second season debuts, just like how it went down with Daredevil.
It’s only a matter of time before Frank joins Danny, Luke, and Matt.
