Few video games have enjoyed an enduring legacy quite like Final Fantasy VII. Square’s PlayStation 1 RPG effectively changed the landscape of the video game world when it was released in 1997, catapulting both the PlayStation and the Final Fantasy name into gaming stardom.

Since Final Fantasy VII’s release, gamers have been clamoring for a remake of the beloved RPG. Years have passed with petitions, Tweets and message board comments crying out for a chance to experience the magic of FFVII once more, with updated visuals (and maybe a better translation).

Today, Sony announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake will indeed be happening.

Final Fantasy VII’s remake, seen in the announcement trailer above, sports a sleek new look for the game. While no actual gameplay is being shown, Square Enix is no schlep in the graphics department, so it’s pretty safe to assume that the game will look great.

The second that more information — and hopefully screenshots — of Final Fantasy VII Remake are released, expect an update from Entertainment Buddha.
