If you’re itching for an excuse to play Final Fantasy VII, then Square Enix’s announcement of an iOS port of the acclaimed game might just make your day.

For the rest of us, the more accurate response is a resounding “why?”

The release of a mobile version of FF VII comes just a few months after the world-shaking announcement of a current gen remaster of the game, bringing FF VII hype to the forefront of the gaming world once more. To capitalize on this increased interest in the game and release a mobile version of the 1997 release — slightly improved visuals, be damned — feels a bit cheap.

Final Fantasy VII’s iOS version is available now.
