EA released a new trailer today to show off one NHL 14’s new game modes, which just so happens to be an homage to the classic NHL 94 title. NHL 94 is considered to be the greatest hockey video game of all-time. It’s been shown in movies, and provided great conversation amongst friends due to its solid gameplay, iconic 16-bit soundtrack, and of course the player injuries.
The visuals have been doctored up a bit in NHL 14, but the charm of NHL 94 is still present. The game engine may be from 2013, but EA made sure to add back in some classic features for the NHL 94 anniversary mode. It will feature blue ice, stars around the players, old school organ music, no rules, and a host of other throwbacks to the original NHL 94.
The inclusion of a NHL 94 mode in NHL 14 has just skyrocketed it to the top of my games to play in 2013 list. I’m pretty sure most gamers who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s will share my sentiments. Make sure to check out the gameplay trailer for this awesome mode after the break.
NHL 14 is set to ship on September 10, 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
