Gareth Edwards and Rian Johnson Have Cameos in the Star Wars Films They’re not Directing

The Future Filmmakers panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe just wrapped, and it was packed full of insights into the Directors bringing the new Star Wars films to the masses. Among the revelations unveiled is the fact that Gareth Edwards and Rian Johnson have cameos in the other Director’s Star Wars film. Gareth has a spot in Star Wars Episode VIII, while Rian has a spot in Rogue One.

A picture of Gareth in costume was released for his Episode VIII cameo, and it was revealed that Rian would be playing a Death Star Operator, aka the dude’s who fire its mega-laser. Apparently the Young Han Solo Directors–Chris Miller and Phil Lord–had dressed up for cameos in Rogue One, but they didn’t make the cut. Sucks for them!

Who am I kidding! They’re directing a new Star Wars film, so they’re two of the luckiest people on Earth. They did officially confirm that Alden Ehrenreich IS the young Han Solo, but the entire Galaxy already knew that, so this was just a formality.

Rian Johnson also revealed that Episode VIII’s production name was Space Bear, which now makes these wrap party images make much more sense.
