Glover Sheds Light On Young Lando’s Falcon and Relationship With L3-37

EW’s coverage of Solo: A Star Wars Story continues with an interview with the actor playing young Lando, Donald Glover. While the article didn’t feature a ton of insights into the Solo film itself, it did reveal some information about young Lando’s Millennium Falcon and his robot buddy L3-37.

In the article Glover was asked about Lando’s relationship with his robot pal L3-37, who is played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Glover summed up their relationship by saying:

“I think they are both kind of self-made, and they get each other that way. It’s lovingly contentious. I don’t know if me and Phoebe were like this because I just love her. Being in a movie with her is kind of a blessing I didn’t even know I wanted. But she also is so smart she calls me out on it. It’s just cool to have somebody like that around, you know? Really funny and really honest.”

If you’ve seen the Solo trailers, then you’ve probably noticed how much different than Millennium Falcon looks. It is bright and shiny, and much cleaner overall looking, so Glover was asked about how Lando’s tastes affected the look of the Falcon when he first owned it. Glover said:

“He’s a very particular person with particular tastes and he likes the comforts of life. I would live in it right now, to be honest! [Laughs] In between takes, they’d be like, “Okay, we are going to set up for the next shot , so you can go sit in your chair or whatever,” and I’d be like, “Actually I’ll just stay in Lando’s room.” It was that nice! I would just lay in his bed and read a book or write something because it is very comfortable. I think he likes to be comfortable. He’s not a cowboy kind of guy.”

Glover was also asked about Lando and Han, and how they differ. Glover explained that they differ on rules:

“He likes to know his way in and out of any situation that he’s in. Lando likes rules because he’s somebody who is in a position to benefit from rules. He’s smart enough to figure out a way to like get out of things, like loopholes, And I think Han is more of a rule breaker and he can kind of get away with it.”

I’m starting to think that these two will meet thanks to Beckett needing a team to pull of some sort of super-heist, and that Han will be brought on for his piloting skills, while Lando will be brought on for his ship. I think both will learn to respect each other, but deep down Han will view Lando as a debonaire dude who can’t be fully trusted, while Lando will view Han as an arrogant and sometimes dangerous punk.

Stay tuned for more Solo news as it becomes available.
