I think my wannabe rock star dreams are finally coming true! A new rhythm-rock game similar to Rock Band or Guitar Hero is coming out, but it will utilize an actual 6-string guitar versus the plastic buttons the other franchises use. Seven45 Studios will be releasing Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, which will include collaborations with the Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, and Kid Rock. I’ve been dying for some DMB in a music game, and the fact that it may lead to teaching me real guitar is a double-bonus.
I’ve been trying to learn real guitar since these video-rock games first hit the scene a few years ago, and honestly I still suck toilet bowls. I don’t think I’ll ever be any good because learning how to play a guitar from a book isn’t the easiest thing to do. I also think my fingers are too stubby, but that may just be a cop-out. The fact that I’ll be able to try and play DMB, Kid Rock, and Clapton tunes on a real guitar while gaming, gives me hope that my real guitar skills may one day be good enough to play Mary Had A Little Lamb for my friends and family. Whatever works right?
I think this is wonderful and a great way to get people like me playing real instruments. You all know that you want to play instruments too if you already don’t. It’s just one of those things that make you cooler than a polar bear’s toenails if you know what I mean. The Dave Matthews Band feels the same way. In regards to Power Gig they said, ““We think Power Gig is a much needed and much welcomed game because, unlike any others before it, it puts a real guitar into the hands of aspiring musicians, and we hope it inspires our fans and others to start playing even when they’re not playing the game.”
I don’t think I’ll ever be a musician, but Power Gig: Rise of the SixString sounds like a great place to start learning. Isn’t gaming wonderful? There really aren’t many other details yet, but I’ll keep my ear to the street and let you rock fans know what is going down when I find out myself. I can’t wait! You’ve been given a new career path…
