How would I describe GUTS? First-off, I would say that it is an absolute blast to play. I mean it’s over-the-top, ultra-violent, hilarious and creative, how could it not be fun? There are 9 characters to choose from, each with their own story and reason to be on GUTS (Gory Ultimate Tournament Show). How do you win the game, you ask? Players must dismember their opponents by chopping off their arms and their legs. The fight continues until all of your opponent’s limbs are ripped off and you land the final blow! There are a couple different ways to dismember your opponent’s limbs. First, the main method is the GUTS Moves, these are special moves that rip off limbs when they connect. Second, there are the Hazards or Traps. Each stage has specific traps, such as grinders and saws, that dismember the fighters when they touch them.
The game play in GUTS is completely unique and easy to understand, even if you have no skill at all. There’s no need to memorize which buttons to smash for moves or special attacks, which change according to how many limbs the character has left. GUTS consists of a U-Points system, which can be used to unleash a few special moves or heal/recover a lost limb. Single player game play takes about 8+ hours to unlock all 18 endings (2 endings per character). GUTS does have online game play, which I have yet to try out. It is currently still in Beta to test it community-wide.
GUTS was so fun and different than any fighting game I’ve played before. The gory aspect mixed with the humor really knocked it out of the park for me. The soundtrack is completely original and perfect for the hard-core game play! One aspect I found completely hilarious us that players can use dismembered limbs as weapons to defeat their opponents. You can actually use your opponents leg to beat them to death, how hilarious is that? Another feature I particularly enjoyed in GUTS is that they introduced each character and fully covered their back stories. This contributed to the comical aspect of GUTS because all of the stories were completely ridiculous and funny! While the characters fight, they yell funny little quips to each other which makes the mood much lighter so you don’t feel so bad about kicking them into a giant buzz saw.
I absolutely suggest GUTS to anyone who isn’t afraid of blood and flying limbs. I’m so glad I got to review GUTS, it’s an experience no one should miss out on!
