While browsing my cPanel this weekend I noticed that my host (Hostmonster) completely revamped its backup and restore utility for sites running on their servers. The new service is called Site Backup and Restore, which also comes with a PRO mode for those admins that want to add the ability to backup/restore individual files, as well as files that have only been changed recently. For $12.95 a year the PRO option was a no brainer for me. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to go PRO to backup or restore your site’s content, but I liked the ability to backup/restore individual files, so I decided to pay for the extra service. One thing you never want to skimp on when it comes to digital technologies is disaster recovery, so the nominal fee wasn’t an issue for me.
New Features in Hostmonster’s Site Backup and Restore Service
Even if you don’t go PRO the new Site Backup and Restore system is still very robust. It’s presented in a much simpler GUI than the previous backup/restore method, which should make the process less daunting to those web admins that don’t have a full grasp on hosting technologies. If you can point and click you can work this system. It’s literally as easy as clicking on the process you want, which would be backup, or restore, and then within those operations you can fine tune your selections. For example, if you made an error in your index.php file that crippled your site, all you’d have to do is go to the last backup that contained a working version of the file and restore it. Hostmonster offers Daily, Weekly, and Monthly backups, so it shouldn’t be an issue restoring a working version of a broken file.
New Site Backup and Restore Interface is Clean and Intuitive
Your Site is Backed Up Daily, Weekly, and Monthly
With the PRO Version You Can Choose Individual Files and Folders
Hostmonster’s new Site Backup and Restore PRO tool makes managing your website that much easier. It should take the stress off your shoulders when it comes to backing up, or restoring portions of your site, and let you focus on the important things like your site’s content. Anyone that has used a GUI interface before should feel right at home with their new disaster recovery management system. If you’ve been looking for a host that provides a complete, yet simple to use backup/restore system, I would recommend checking out Hostmonster.
