How to Train Your Dragon 3 Review – A Perfect Conclusion

Dreamworks How to Train Your Dragon 3, aka, The Hidden World, is now in theaters and if you’re a fan of the franchise, you will not be disappointed with the tale it offers. Like the previous two films, this seemingly end to the franchise is packed full of emotions of varying sorts, and manages to tell a heartwarming story that both parents, kids, and plain old fans of the series will love.

You can check out my full review below in video or scripted form, and yes, go see this movie in theaters as soon as possible.

“Hey now dragon riders of Burk, Matt Heywood here from to review How to Train Your Dragons 3, or what I like to call the end to one of the, if not the greatest animated trilogies of all-time.

Suck it Woody, but I love ya.

How to Train Your Dragons 3 continues the excellence in heartfelt storytelling that started with the original, got bolstered in the sequel, and is now perfected in what appears to be the final installment in the movie trilogy.

After watching this film it’s hard not to count the How to Train Your Dragons franchise as one of the best animated movie franchises of all-time, if not the best. This movie is a damn near perfect end to Hiccup and Toothless’ journey, and it’s full of excitement, wonder, and plenty of emotion. Especially if you’re a parent, a pet owner, or someone who has ever loved another being before.

Just watch out for Hiccup’s flashbacks, especially if you lived a bit of life, because they’ll hit you like a ton of bricks thanks to the fact that they remind you how precious our relationships are during are short stay on Earth. And that it’s better to have loved and lost, than to never love at all. Phew, who knew cartoons could be so damn powerful.

This sequel isn’t all doom and gloom, but it definitely presents the most emotionally intense moments of the series. I credit this due to the journey we’ve all taken with the vikings of Burk, but also for this film’s villain,  Grimmel, who provides Hiccup and company with their greatest challenge to-date. He’s a great big bad, and provides plenty of tense moments to further work up your emotions.

Of course the love story with Toothless and the Light Fury helps to balance out some of the doom and gloom. I really enjoyed the courtship of these two, especially from Toothless, who provides one of the film’s more genuinely hilarious moments. This guy is hard not to love thanks to his bond with Toothless over the years, and that dynamic takes center stage as both of these best of friends have to make hard choices, as we all do when we get older and have to favor responsibility over our own gratification.

How to Train Your Dragons 3 earns a 9 out of 10 review score from Team EB. It’s just as magical, if not more so than the previous films, and if it is the true end of the franchise on the big screen, I can say it left me more than satisfied with how everyone’s story ends.

Thanks for watching, I’m Matt Heywood signing off for, where we make you a better geek, one post at a time.”
