While it’s long been rumored that Fox would be making a sequel to the greatest Fourth of July film ever, new updates have come to light. Jeff Goldblum is set to return, while Will Smith took a pass on the film for reasons beyond me. Bill Pullman is planning to reprise his role as President Whitmore, which we can only hope leads to another arousing pep talk like this one. Still gives me chills.

According to moviepilot.com, the plot will pick up about 20 years after the original invasion with the aliens returning for round two. The film will follow the alien blasting Dylan, Smith’s stepson in the original film. That’s right, the kid with the goofy, backwards hat is going to save Earth.

As long as Will Smith’s real son isn’t in the movie, we should be ok.

The movie is set to release early July in 2016.
