iOS 4.0.1 Won’t Fix Your Reception Issues, Just Ask AppleCare!

I had reported earlier that the planned patch for iOS 4 may help to alleviate some pain felt by the FUBAR iPhone 4 antenna, but Apple themselves have conceded that this is not the case.  The patch may make your signal bars more realistic in their reporting, but the underlying issue of a shatty antenna still remain.  I guess Gizmodo has contacted AppleCare about this, and AC confirmed that more or less the iPhone 4 reception issue is here to stay unless you hold your phone right, or get the magical bumbers to prevent your hand from muffling the signal.

This whole things has just turned into one large clusterf*ck for Apple.  What a shame!  In a million years I’d never thought that Apple would make such a huge screw up with their hardware.  I mean I expect crap like this from Microsoft, and other huge electronics firms, but not from Lord Jobs and his mystical crew of wizards and fairies.  It just goes to show you that the more money you make as a company, the more likely you are to cut some corners in hardware design to make mo’ money!  Apple has lost some cool points on this one.  What do you think fanboys?

Here is the official response coming from AppleCare in regards to the antenna issue:

• There is an antenna interference problem when you hold the iPhone 4 in a certain way (the tests by Anandtech and many demonstration videos in the internet show that the signal drop will happen every time when you touch the phone’s dead spot, on the left bottom corner).

• One solution is to hold the phone differently, avoiding to touch the left bottom corner of the phone (coincidentally, this is how models hold the iPhone 4 in most of Apple’s promotional material).

• The other other solution is to buy a case or one of Apple’s $30 bumpers.

• The incoming software update will not fix this antenna problem, only change the way the phone displays the available signal, make it more accurate

What a travesty.  This is starting to look worse than Microsoft’s Red Ring of Death error on the Xbox 360’s.  I guess you get what you pay for when you hire cheap labor from countries like China.  I’d hope Apple is already back in the labs working on a permanent fix if not a whole new design.  For now the 4 should be more aptly named the iFail 4.  If you want to try and push for free bumpers to all 4 users, Gizmodo is hosting a petition, which can be signed here.  You’ve been shafted…
