At first I didn’t believe it, but it is indeed reality. JJ Abrams, one of the greatest champions of geek storytelling, is going to direct Star Wars Episode VII. Now that he’s officially in charge Abrams has made his first round of comments on the film, and what he wants it to be. In an interview with The Huffington Post Abrams laid down his vision for the film, and it’s exactly what a super fan wants to hear.
“I can just say what I want to do: I want to do the fans proud. I want to make sure the story is something that touches people. And we’re just getting started. I’m very excited.”
He also went on to tell E! Online how surreal his involvement in the project is, which I think any long time Star Wars fan can identify with.
“It really is an incredible thing, It’s wildly surreal. It’s obviously way too early to talk specifics, but I’m excited to actually start it.”
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think having JJ in charge of the first non-Lucas helmed Star Wars movie is a fantastic thing. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with, and I’m already banking on it being a thousand times better than the three prequel movies combined. Let us know what you’re thinking by leaving a comment after the break. You’ve been thinking that there probably isn’t a better choice to take over the directorial duties of Star Wars Episode VII…
