During an interview on Popcorn with Peter Travers, John Boyega made a few claims about Carrie Fisher’s General Leia character and how she will go out in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In the interview Boyega said, “I was in Nigeria when we found out [about her death]. It was a strange, strange feeling. I felt like everyone in the cast went silent for a bit after that … [But] this movie, it sends her off in an amazing, amazing way.” He also went on to add that his character Finn and Fisher’s Leia have “many scenes” together.
I actually find his first comment very interesting, especially considering that according to everyone at Disney and Lucasfilm, General Leia was supposed to have a much larger role in Star Wars Episode IX. Fisher had also wrapped her work on The Last Jedi before she passed, so I find it curious that General Leia could have an amazing send off in The Last Jedi if it wasn’t initially planned. Unless everyone has been yanking our chains, I just find it hard to believe that the character of General Leia could have an amazing send off in The Last Jedi unless it had been planned all along, which I just can’t buy into.
Oh well, I hope Boyega is right, because Fisher’s Leia does deserver and must have an amazing send off, so hopefully that is exactly what we get in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
