Today Lucasfilm announced that Jon Favreau has been tapped to write and executive produce a live-action Star Wars TV show, and that’s pretty radical if I say so myself. The show will be distributed on Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer VOD platform that it plans to rollout in the coming years to offer streaming access to Disney’s vast catalogue of licenses and brands.
This isn’t Jon’s first foray with Star Wars though. He played Pre Vizsla on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and he’s playing an alien in Solo: A Star Wars Story, so he’s no Star Wars noob.
At this time there are absolutely zero details on this project outside of Favreau’s involvement. Casting information, production dates, and the show title are all unknown at this point. Maybe this project could be related to the Star Wars Resistance rumors from a few weeks back, or it could be something entirely unrelated. Either way, as a Star Wars fan it’s great to know that we’re finally getting a live-action Star Wars show, which has been teased since the Lucas era back in the early 2000’s.
