Jonathan Hickman’s “Time Runs Out” Avengers Story Will Lead to New “Secret Wars”
The need for speculation is over because now we know exactly what the Avengers/New Avengers “Time Runs Out” story is leading up to.
As just announced at New York Comic Con, the current big story unfolding in the pages of Avengers and New Avengers which is set a few months into the future of the Marvel universe will then lead directly into Jonathan Hickman’s “Secret Wars”. Hickman will write and Esad Ribic (Thor: God of Thunder) will do the art.
Dan Buckley, Marvel’s President & Publisher of print, said Hickman has had this in his back pocket since he began writing Avengers/New Avengers in 2012. Hickman has wanted to re-visit this Marvel story, which was originally published as a 12-part event in 1984-1985, but tell the story in a different way.
Buckley says, “We’ve been sitting on this for a very long time. When Jonathan brought this to us, we had an opportunity to just not celebrate this in publishing, so we’re going to be extending this in a year-long program into 2016 with our merchandising partners, digital partners and other partners.”
The original event was 12 issues and lasted an entire year, replete with plenty of merchandise, and it seems as though Marvel is going to treat this new version with just as much revelry.
The people most excited about this news are those with either a complete set of the original series or those that at least have issue #8, the first appearance of Spider-Man’s black symbiote costume because the price of poker has just gone waaaay up.
