Jurassic World Earns Half a Billion Worldwide in Opening Weekend
When Universal released Jurassic World last weekend, it expected good numbers, just not this good.
The new dino flick topped Avengers with $208 million domestic, and $315 million overseas, which topped the $314 million from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011. Universal first estimated that Jurassic World would top the $200 million mark in the U.S., while most analysts had the film between $125-135 million, but the film quickly became a must-see. Universal credits a strong final push after people heard about its big opening that encouraged others to see it by the end of the weekend.
It’s a pretty impressive showing, considering that season five’s finale of Game of Thrones and game 5 of the NBA Championship were both on television, but it didn’t seem to deter most movie-goers from checking out the Indominus Rex and Chris Pratt’s endearing charm.
