Last night at their last CES appearance Microsoft confirmed that a Windows based Kinect device will be headed to market on February 1.  This is only for PC’s, and has nothing to do with the Xbox 360 Kinect unit.  The Windows device will run $250, which is a full $100 more than the Xbox model.  The only new feature that I could find that justifies that increase is that the Windows Kinect will be able to detect objects at a macro level.

I see no need to own one of these right now, but I’m definitely curious to see what geeks will come up with now that they have a Kinect that is meant to work on PC’s.  I foresee this peripheral turning the Windows experience, especially Windows 8, into an interactive environment similar to tablets.  Only time will tell, but I think some ground breaking nonsense will result out of an official Kinect for PC’s.  You’ve been wanting to see some new Kinect innovations…
