THQ Nordic today announced that it secured the rights to various bits of IP from the now defunct 38 Studios, and among the assets are the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise. Kingdoms of Amalur eventually led to 38 Studios’ shutdown, but not because it was a bad game. It maintains an 80 rating on Metacritic to this day, and it is considered to be a worthy experience by many gamers.
I’m not sure what this acquisition may lead to in the short term, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a remastered version of its first, and then a sequel will follow 1-2 years from now. The press release doesn’t mention anything about a new game in the series being worked on, but considering that THQ Nordic spent cash on the IP, it would make sense to think that they’ll eventually create a new game in the series. Stay tuned for more details.
