Lawrence Kasdan & Simon Kinberg May be Working on Star Wars Spinoff Films

A few days ago we posted a rumor that Empire writer Lawrence Kasdan, and Sherlock writer Simon Kinberg were hired to write the stories for Star Wars Episode VIII and Episode IX, and they have indeed been hired to work on Disney’s Star Wars franchise, but they might actually be penning stories for some spin off installments.  The Hollywood Reporter has been informed by some insiders about the new plans for Kasdan and Kinberg, which are:

“Kasdan and Kinberg indeed have been hired to work on the Star Wars franchise, they will be writing separate projects (hence the reason why they also would receive producer credits), not necessarily Episode VIII and Episode IX.  Their scripts could turn into official “Episodes” in the main Skywalker storyline, or they could form the basis for spinoffs focusing on side characters. Disney CEO Robert Iger said the goal is to release a Star Wars movie “every two to three years,” and some could focus on other pieces of the expansive mythos (similar to Marvel’s Avengers universe)” – THR

I’m still down with both of these scribes working on the new Star Wars films, but are you?  Kasdan’s work on Empire can’t be denied, so he’s a perfect fit, but I’m not so sure about Kinberg.  Do you want them working on the official trilogy, or spinoff projects similar to the Marvel Phase 1 films that lead up to The Avengers?  All of this Star Wars speculation makes me feel like a kid again trying to figure out what the prequels were going to be about.  Hopefully this new trilogy won’t let us down.  You’ve been liking all of this Star Wars news…
