Just a few days ago we posted that Google TV was getting an update to version 2.0, which is just the fancy way of describing Android’s Honeycomb OS for tablets. The update was supposed to be rolled out today (10/30), so I eagerly fired up my Logitech Revue set top box to see if the OTA update was ready to download and install. I navigated to the Settings app and scrolled down to the About menu, which usually contains a feature to force software update checks if needed. I commanded my Revue to check its current software in hopes of kicking off the Google TV 2.0 update, but the answer I got wasn’t what I was looking for. My Revue kept telling me that my Google TV software was already up to date, but I could blatantly see that I wasn’t sporting the new 2.0 update.
I was beginning to think that it was just a case of the usual Google Android update process (never on time, sketchy, and potential for bricking devices), but after doing some research I came across an article that explained that only the Sony Google TV units would be getting the Google TV 2.0 update starting today. It seems as if the Logitech Revue isn’t slated to get the update quite yet. In fact, there’s no definitive date for Logitech Revue owners seeking the 2.0 update. For the time being only Sony Google TV device owners should expect the update to get pushed to their devices this week. I’ll keep an eye on things and check my Revue everyday for the update, but for now she’s yesterday’s news. Boned by the odd Google Android update process once again!! You’ve been thinking that you may make the full conversion and go with Apple TV…
