Episode 6 of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy series takes an interesting look at Lord Raiden, the God of Thunder, and how he came to Earth to prepare its fighters for the tournament. Although, in Legacy, Raiden’s story is told in a very unique way by having him literally fall out of the sky and end up on the grounds of a psyche ward. I must say that I truly appreciate the vision that series creator Kevin Tancharoen had for Raiden’s story. It’s a refreshing take on the God of Thunder that stays faithful to the realistic portrayal of MK characters that the Legacy series has been showcasing.
For the first time I really enjoyed one of these Legacy stories. The previous ones have been mediocre at best, but Raiden’s turn in the spotlight is high quality. It has some mysticism, fighting, blue blood, and some wonderfully directed moments. I also felt like this episode just had an overall higher production value than the last two, which focused on Kitana and Mileena. Let’s just say that those episodes were easily identifiable as MK: Legacy being a budget constrained production, where in Raiden’s episode you don’t get the feeling that these things were created on the cheap. I really did dig it, so if you’ve fallen off of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy bandwagon you may want to get back on the train by watching Episode 6 below. You’ve been hoping that you never need a lobotomy…
