Mafex Sandtrooper Video Review: Not Bad for a Medicom Figure

Mafex, Medicom, whatever you want to call it, is known for creating high-end action figures in 1/12 scale, but it’s also known for the lack of quality in said figures. I’ve purchased a few Mafex Star Wars toys, and each has let me down by essentially falling apart as soon as I take them out of their packaging. This happened with the C-3PO and R2-D2 combo pack, which does feature some great looking figures, but 3PO’s joints are so loose he’s impossible to pose or even stand straight without using the included figure stand with a claw arm to prop him up. The R2 is legit, so the combo was hit and miss.

I then got the Boba Fett figure, and he was marvelous to say the least, and he only suffered from a slightly loose hand. Well, I decided to grab the Rey Mafex figure, and like old Golden Rod, her arm literally fell out of the socket the moment I pulled her out of her box, and it’s been screwed up ever since.

It’s safe to say that I went into my purchase of the Mafex Sandtrooper with the knowledge that it could be another piece of shit, but once it showed up, I was pleasantly surprised. I mean outside of a slightly odd looking helmet and a scale issue (He’s taller than the Black Series figures), this dude is the best Mafex figure I’ve received. At least in terms of quality, because his joints are as solid as they can be, and he doesn’t feel fragile in the least.
