Masquerada: Songs and Shadows is a tactical RPG set in the city of Ombre during a deadly civil war. In this Venetian-styled world, only the rich wear masks that grant deadly magic. Players follow Cicero Gavar, a man who has been exiled from the vast city of Ombre. Cicero returns to his home in Ombre to investigate a kidnapping that will shake the very foundation of the city.
The game is fully narrated by voice actors such as Dave Fennoy (The Walking Dead), Matthew Mercer (Fire Emblem: Awakening), Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect series), and many other talented people.
I personally thought this game was unique. It is very colorful and animated in a simple, yet creative way. I enjoy how the game almost has a deeper meaning. Only the rich wear masks on their faces which grants them the power of magic. When you die with a mask, your loved ones get a song to remember you by. So, anyone who doesn’t have a mask is forgotten forever. I feel this speaks on a deeper level of society today with upper-class vs. middle/lower-class.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed the vibe of the game. It has a great story, narration, and some unique ways to fight enemies!
Masquerada: Songs and Shadows is out now on Steam here and will be coming to PS4 sometime in July, 2017!
