UPDATE – Well some more details have come out in regards to the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, and they’re pretty awesome.  Supposedly, the ME3 Multiplayer will be 4-player co-op in what I’d imagine to be a Horde like game.  The kicker is that whatever you do in this multiplayer mode will have an affect on your single player “Galactic Readiness” system.  Not sure what that is, but the thought of influencing your campaign via 4-player co-op is intriguing to say the least.  If you want to browse around the forums to read about ME3 multi you can head on over to this link.

Original – EA and Bioware have just confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will indeed have a multiplayer component.  There aren’t many details at all, but it will be a separate mode from the campaign and offer some sort of competitive play versus co-op.  Personally, I don’t see the fit.  The Mass Effect games have never had multiplayer, nor do they need one.  As long as the ME3 campaign didn’t suffer from the team tacking on a multiplayer component then who gives a sh*t, but if any development time was robbed from the core experience so multiplayer could be added, then I won’t be a happy Alliance member.  We will have to wait and see how this new feature in Mass Effect 3 pans out, but it doesn’t really make me want this game anymore than I already did.  How about you?  You’ve been thinking that this is an odd addition to the Mass Effect formula…
