Mega Man 11 is sort of a big deal in the same way that Sonic Mania and the Crash and Spyro remasters are. They’re a big deal in the sense that beloved mascots that we had long since written off as dead are, in fact, not. The Blue Bomber’s new adventure looks to capture the feel of the classic NES titles (not so much 7 and 8), with a colorful new 3D design.

We finally have a release date for the game, which is October 2nd, 2018, and a little bit more information on the Double Gear system. As far as I can tell, it seems to serve a couple of purposes, in that it powers up Mega Man in different ways. You can shoot a super-charged buster shot that’s more powerful than the third-tier charge, and possibly charge boss weapons too. In the Mega Man X games, being able to charge the boss weapons was a fairly normal occurance, assuming you had the correct armor piece. Being able to do it in a Classic style game is a pretty big deal though, and it can do even more than that too. It seems as though if Mega Man is on the ropes it can give him a temporary power/speed boost.

I’m almost certain that there will be some kind of mode where you can turn this off if you’re a hardcore fan and don’t want any frills. Check out the trailer above and let us know what you think and what you’re most excited for in the new game!
