Microsoft E3 Keynote Presentation Final Thoughts…
Now that I’ve had time to digest the Microsoft E3 2010 press conference I’d like to give some sort of a coherent evaluation of it. The main feature of their time on the stage was heavily centered on the Kinect, but we did get some awesome game demos for Gears 3, Halo: Reach, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Fable 3, and COD: Black Ops. Outside of that it’s hard to talk about anything that isn’t Kinect.
Last year when Kinect was still called Project Natal I was a bit skeptical. I figured it was an attempt to capture some of the motion-control success that Nintendo had with the Wii, but after today’s demos I realized that I was gravely mistaken. The Kinect is a true piece of gadget goodness. Yeah the games look party oriented and not for hardcore gamers, but I’m totally digging it. Maybe my gadget love is just for the voice and motion commands it adds to the Xbox experience, but I think this Kinect add-on is revolutionary. I can’t wait to get my hands on one November 4th!
Man I think I’m a Kinect fanboy already! Anyway, I loved the Microsoft E3 press conference. I felt it was heavy on Kinect demos, but how couldn’t it be? This add-on is the tits, even if you don’t like the games, it will turn your Xbox experience into something you’ve only seen in the movies. I can’t wait to talk to my Xbox 360 and have it carry out my commands, or navigate the screens with hand motions like Tom Cruise first did in Minority Report. So cool!
I felt MS did a good job showcasing the heavily anticipated titles like Gears of War 3 and Halo: Reach. Both demos really highlighted how awesome these games will be with 4 player co-op, and it never ceases to amaze me how these franchises just keep getting better in all facets. The visuals were amazing to say the least for each of these games. I can’t believe I have to wait close to a year for Gears of War 3! I guess it’s a good thing that I’ll have the Kinect to look forward to later this year.
All in all I give Microsoft an A. I felt the Kinect reveal and game demos were revolutionary and deserved an “A” rating themselves. Plus you add in the demos for GOW, COD, MGS, Halo, and Fable 3 to cement the awesomeness. One thing I forgot to mention is that MS announced an exclusive deal with Crytek to make a game that may try and challenge Sony’s God of War franchise. Oh and don’t forget that there’s a new Xbox 360 model with a 250GB HDD and built in WiFi N.
All I know is that after watching the Microsoft E3 2010 press conference I’m glad to be an Xbox 360 owner and gamer. Truly awesome stuff! You’ve been blown away by MS at E3…
