Mortal Kombat Rebirth Short Spawns 10 Part Web Series

Remember those campy Mortal Kombat movies from the mid 90’s?  Unfortunately, I do.  They were semi-entertaining, but at their essence they were just cheap B-Movie fan service for the wildly popular arcade game.  The best thing that came out of them was the techno-fied Mortal Kombat theme song, and some bad jokes.  If these movies left you wanting more of the Mortal Kombat Universe, but in a fashion that truly represents the game’s over the top brutality, then you have to watch ‘Mortal Kombat Rebirth’ below.

‘Rebirth’ was first introduced over the summer, and many fans thought that it may lead to a feature film deal.  That’s not going to happen, but Warner Bros. has green lit a 10 part Web series, which will begin filming next month in Vancouver.  The series is said to include some familiar characters like, Scorpion, Jax, Shang Tsung, and Sub-Zero.  It will have a supernatural flare to it, but not like the movies.  You’ll see the style they’re shooting for in the clip below.  It’s very gritty and more real than what the older movies portrayed.  Can anyone say forced head removal?  I dig it, so I’ll make sure to keep my eyes peeled for more details.  In the meantime, check out ‘Rebirth’ below to get an idea of what the web series will look like.  You’ve always wanted to see Johnny Cage get his head lopped off…
