Everest

The first trailer for the upcoming thriller was released this week, and it’ll either inspire you to try something great, or run inside and lock your doors. The film tells the tale of a group of climbers hiking the world’s biggest mountain, and all the daunting weather issues that may make an appearance in the blink of an eye. The film is based on a 1996 expedition that ended in disaster and the best-selling, non-fiction novel Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster by Jon Karkauer. Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, and Keira Knightely star in the film. Via Universal Pictures

The Walk

In continuing with the “I can’t believe someone would try that” trend, Robert Zemeckis’ newest flick has its first trailer, as seen above. The based-on-a-true-story film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who illegally set up a wire and walked between the World Trade Center Towers not once, but eight times in a span of 45 minutes on August 7th, 1974. A documentary about Petit was made in 2008 entitled Man on a Wire, which one numerous awards. The feature film is set to release later this year on October 2nd. Via Sony Pictures Entertainment

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Well there it is. James Gunn posted the above picture on his Facebook with this statement:

“Phew. After 48 days straight without a day off, the the first draft of ‪#‎GotG2‬ is done. I’m sorry to all my friends and family who I have ignored.”

Gunn had previously discussed on the Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend podcast that the sequel is an original story and won’t reflect the comics, specifically the revelation of Peter Quill’s father. The film is scheduled for release in May 2017. Via Geektyrant

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

The new trailer for fifth installment of the MI series is pretty intense. Rogue Nation attempts to out-do every other MI film (which is asking a lot), and the trailer gives us a great, action-filled shot of what’s to come. There’s Ethan Hunt lacking oxygen, Ethan Hunt driving a car through the streets while being chased by motorcycles and taking a jump in reverse, Ethan Hunt hanging on the side of a plane, and Ethan Hunt racing on a motorcycle, which is something 15 year old Nick found to be the best part of MI:II. You can make it count in what may be the last mission in theaters on July 31st. Via Mission Impossible

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Star Wars Obi Wan Kenobi

Rumors are circulating that Disney may be working on a project with Ewan McGregor for a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy that would also feature Darth Maul. Again, this is only a rumor at this point, but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities. One idea would be for the Obi-Wan story to pick up after Episode III, and that he will not be a ghost of the Force. Via Schmoes Knows

Captain America: Civil War/Black Panther

Civil War

It’s no secret that Martin Freeman has joined the cast of the next Cap movie (or Avengers, depending on how you look at it) and will also be appearing in 2018’s Black Panther, but what has not been disclosed is his role in the film. Rumors circulated this week that he may be playing the Prim Minister of England in the MCU, Edward Chase, who was referenced in Avengers: Age of Ultron (he may have been the “Minister” Klaw was on the phone with). At this time it’s only speculation, but it would make sense given the ties to the two films. Via Latino-Review
