Movie News and Rumors for 7-24-15
The first trailer for A24’s Mississippi Grind film was made available today, telling the story of Gerry, a talented gambler who finds himself in a jam. Enter Ryan Reynolds: an apparent good luck charm as he and Gerry go on a gambling binge up and down the Mississippi River in an attempt to solve Gerry’s money problems. The film also stars Sienna Miller, Analeigh Tipton, Robin Weigert, and Anna Boden, and is set for a September 25th release.
The Good Dinosaur
Disney/Pixar released a new trailer for The Good Dinosaur, which asks what would have happened if an asteroid hadn’t killed off the dinosaurs. The film tells the tale of a young dinosaur named Arlo who loses his family and befriends an orphaned human he names Spot as the two form a bond during Arlo’s journey home. You can catch The Good Dinosaur in theaters on November 25th.
Simon Kinberg (X-Men franchise) has been tapped to penn the re-make of this classic ’70s film, and will be working alongside Joel Silver (The Matrix trilogy). For those unfamiliar, Logan’s Run is set in a futuristic utopia where humans are sentenced to death once they hit a certain age. Logan is an executioner who starts sympathizing with his victims, and attempts to break the cycle for new freedom. At this time no release date or casting has been announced. Via THR
Jurassic World 2
After the overwhelming success of Jurassic World, it was only a matter of time until another was announced. That happened today, as Universal broke news that JW2 is being scheduled for a June 22, 2018 release. The film will see the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as the lead, along with JW writer Colin Trevorow, though he won’t be directing this time around. Via Deadline
Pacific Rim 2
It’s been confirmed that Pacific Rim 2 is going to begin shooting this November, and could possibly be titled Maelstrom. The sequel will be led by Guillermo del Toro, though no casting decisions have been made at this time. While the first film only made $100 million in the U.S. (on a $190 million budget), the film pulled in an additional $400 million worldwide. PR2 is going to explore the mythology behind Kajiu, putting the monsters in focus as opposed to the mechanical Jaegers. The film is slated for an August 2017 release. Via MovieWeb
