Holy gaucamole is this a big week for comics! Both DC and Marvel have some big premieres this week. DC has Flash Season Zero, Gotham Academy, and Lobo debuts along with more of Batman/Superman #14, aftermath of “Superman: Doomed” in Action Comics #35, more hjinks in Justice League #34, two parts of the “Godhead” Green Lantern family event, and the penultimate issue of Wonder Woman #34 for Cliff Chiang and Brian Azzarello. You may have heard that there’s a new Thor in town, maybe, who makes her anticipated debut this week, along with the next Captain America. Also hitting the shelves this week with #1’s are Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier and Guardians 3000. Elsewise for Marvel includes more “Spider-Verse”, Uncanny Avengers #25M, and finally the third issue of Death of Wolverine #3. Image submits Nailbiter #6, Walking Dead #132 and the next issue of Fade Out #2.
Thor #1 (Marvel)
Welp, she’s finally here. The new volume of Thor by Jason Aaron (Wolverine and the X-Men) and Russel Dauterman (Cylcops) begins with some major questions to answer, such as: what exactly did Nick Fury say to the previous Thor to make him unworthy and who exactly IS this new Thor?
Captain America #25 (Marvel)
Who is the new Captain America?? Well, thanks to Marvel spoiling this months ago we already know that it’s Falcon. The last issue in this volume of Captain America, which will re-launch next month as All-New Captain America, finishes up the long “Dimension Z” story with new Cap battling Arnim Zola. But what does this mean for all those that came out of Dimension Z, like Ian Zola and Jet, but also what does this mean for Sharon Carter?
Fade Out #2 (Image)
This book is so good you can’t even find it! Issue #1 flew off the shelves instantly and Brubaker’s newest crime noir is receiving rave reviews. The story continues on to figure out if the main mystery is a murder cover up or a suicide. There is incentive to read this in singles as the back page articles will only be available in issues.
Guardians 3000 #1 (Marvel)
Dan Abnett begins another Guardians book, and this time it is the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the early ’90s who also showed up in the classic Abnett and Lanning run of Guardians of the Galaxy that came out of Annihilation.
New Gods: Godhead #1 (DC)
It’s yet another event for the Green Lantern family of books and while that has largely been the status quo almost since the beginning of the New 52 for GL, most of the events have at least been entertaining. After learning that the infinite Source Wall has been breached, the Highfather (leader of the New Gods) must collect one ring from each color on the emotional spectrum to breach the Source Wall himself. This is part 1 of the event with Green Lantern #35 (part 2) also releasing this week.
